With this project, Thomas Toussaint presents a new soundtrack of Walter Ruttman’s legendary film Berlin: Symphony Of A Great City (1927). This live performed cinemix is a real-time synchronisation of video clips from the original film with electronic/ jazz music.
Exploring the links between early experimentations in cinema and modern Audio/Video/live techniques, the project is also a reflection on Berlin and its history, a bridge between modern alternative cultures and the 1920’s intensive activity in the city. Berlin: Synchronisation Of A City will be presented in November
2009, at the Swedish Ambassy in Germany for the 20th anniversary of the fall of the wall.
Avec ce projet, Thomas Toussaint propose une nouvelle bande son du célèbre film de Walter Ruttman, Berlin : Symphony Of A Great City (1927).
Ce cinemix-live consiste à synchroniser en direct des extraits du film original avec un nouvel ensemble de compositions musicales.
Voulant explorer les liens étroits entre les origines du cinéma expérimental et les formes actuelles d’expression audio/vidéo, le projet s’inscrit aussi dans une réflexion sur Berlin et son histoire : une sorte de passerelle entre les cultures alternatives modernes et l’intense activité culturelle de la ville dans les années 1920.
